The waterfall flowed down to the new cocktail lounge and dining area was called the “garden room.” What was magical about this waterfall was the double spiral staircase in front of the cascading waterfall that led into a surrounding enormous Japanese Orange Koi fish pond where patrons would drop coins from the main floor restaurant lobby. The original circular 180-degree flagstone waterfall separating the cocktail lounge from the restaurant lobby continued to offer guests a natural source of “White Noise” masking distracting sounds while allowing guests to permeate their minds for the feature productions either on the bandstands or the stage. The restaurant lobby remained open during years of construction then adding a new dining area in the original ground level theater setting. The new Drury Lane second-floor theater exterior pictured below was connected to the original restaurant’s first floor main dining rooms and second floor Sky Room banquet dining room allowing guests access into the new theater. This box office was Tony De Santis office along with his theater staff.Ī dramatic, plush, thick, red-carpeted spiral staircase leading to the second-floor lobby of the new Drury Lane structure along with a new Star apartment and adjoining new DeSantis apartment was added. This new structure allowed the theater guests a separate entrance through an Italian marble foyer with the new box office on the main floor. New construction was started by the early 1960’s, showcasing a new sunken bar with cocktail lounges, transformed the original Drury Lane Theater from the basement floor of the original Martinique building into a separate structure with the new Theater. The Sky Room offered a back bar and a separate kitchen serving banquet parties. Located in the Rose Room, an Italian marble staircase with Crystal Chandeliers, led the guests to the second floor Sky Room dining. Separate from the lobby was adjoining Orchid Room, Rose Room, and Sky dining rooms. The Martinique offered a first-floor main lobby with entry to dining facilities, main dining room including a front terrace, bandstand, dance floor, rear terrace and a balcony overlooking all of the main floor dining seating. With a planned expansion my father, Paul Akerlund Sr., rejoined his former assistant manager by 1959, then becoming a co-manager and Mr.
